COVID-19 Policies:
- This course is designed to build upon skills learned in English 9. English 10/10A literature provides a variety of reading materials. Using the writing process, students write essays that demonstrate a command of Standard English. Students further develop along with writing and speaking. Students refine skills identified in the tenth-grade standards, as well as test-taking strategies.
Texts:
- Indiana McDougal Littell Literature: 10 (2008, McDougal Littell)
- Actively Learn (Online reading comprehension program)
- Additional texts and resources as determined by the teacher
Content:
- We will read a variety of texts from different genres to better understand literary concepts such as plot, character development, theme, narrative devices, and much more. Studying these concepts will help students become better readers and writers. It is imperative that students read the assigned texts and be prepared to discuss the readings. We will also write a variety of essays and other, shorter writings.
Testing:
- PSAT
- NWEA
Resources:
- Students must bring their charged Chromebooks daily.
- Students should regularly check barringerenglish.weebly.com and Google Classroom for assignments.
- Students should have access to RDS Student/Parent Access and actively monitor grades.
Make-up Work and Retake Policy:
- Students are responsible for obtaining information about missed assignments. Students should refer to Google Classroom and classmates for information regarding missed assignments.
- Students may ask the teacher for further explanation of individual assignments as needed. Students should make these requests at the end of class, via email, or during a FLEX period.
- Students may take advantage of retakes by asking a teacher.
Late Work Policy:
- Please submit all assignments on the date and time specified. We do not take off points for late homework, but you will receive a zero for an assignment until you complete it. Additionally, when we give work time in class, you are expected to use it for working on the assignment. The school's updated late work policy creates more equity for students, but it does not provide an excuse for you to skip work time and turn it in late with no penalty.
Plagiarism/Cheating:
- No cheating of any kind will be tolerated. Students who are caught cheating or copying and pasting answers from the Internet will receive a zero for that assignment or test. Additionally, students who help others cheat by providing answers or test questions will also face disciplinary action. Students must complete their own work.
